boat in still water

photo taken at manila bay one gloomy sunday

Ever felt like you're just stuck? Stagnant perhaps? Like you're trying to get out yet you always fall back to where you started. Like you wanted to just be in another place other than where you're at this moment. Well, I guess that's where I'm at..

A famous explorer once said that: "You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore." I get the idea, I'm not faint-hearted in exploring the vast ocean yet how come I don't succeed?  I tried my best to sail but then I always fell back to the docks. So what was it that keeps me at bay. Was it the storms? or the tide perhaps? Was it the strong wind that blew the opposite direction or was there something else?

I knew something was wrong so I started to ask a good friend about her opinion or what she might have noticed that I didn't. Something I've overlooked. Then she just asked one question and it made all the difference. She said, "Have you checked your boat?" Silly me, I was too focused on the journey that I've forgotten the basics. So I did what she suggested. I inspected the boat and found out what was missing.

All along, I thought I had a sturdy boat but the last time I checked It had a hole in it's hull. Small and unnoticeable, it didn't even matter during those short run but it affected the boat's bouyancy during the long travels. Yeah, that sinking feeling.. Not only that, I noticed that the sails are also torn and other things as well.

My point is, there is lot of things that were wrong within the boat that I needed to fix. Lesson learned is that focus internally first before you move out to the external factors. Fix even the smallest holes, sew those sails, check for basic necessities, have enough supplies, and check for your boats fuel. Before you set out on your journey, equip yourself with simple items that could definitely benefit you. Such as oars if you ran out of fuel and or there are no winds to be catched by your sails, using them might be hard work but atleast you're moving.

If you think you're ready, then head out to uncertainty. If you meet storms on your journey, be confident that you will be able to overcome them. If one made your boat capsize, then believe that there are other boats near you that are always willing to help. And if there is none, hold on, pray and ask for help. (You could always use the radio, flares and stuffs, hehe). When you survive all of those and you let yourself be saved by others through the grace of God. Then you could always start again from the docks. This time.. with a bigger and better boat.

While I was having my desert day, I found this bench at my spot quite amusing. One could definitely notice it with its intricate design and color. It also made me ponder about its creator, an artistic one and not to mention also a resourceful one. The bench was simple. It serves its purpose as a resting place. It is made of cement yet the one that caught my attention was its beauty. It's designed with pieces of broken tiles with particularly red and green colors. These broken tiles may have seemed useless but then again look at where they are now. It's like they're telling a different kind of story.

Now, why am I talking about a simple bench? Well, It just made me realize that this bench is just like us. One could always emanate beauty despite all the brokenness one have if you just know where to place those broken parts. Everything happens for a reason. That brokeness in you could be the source of something far more special. Just remember.. what seems to be trials today are often blessings in the future.
